Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • stand mixer
  • Wire rack
  • Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash

Instructions

  • The yeast, sugar, and warm water should all be combined in a stand mixer basin. Let the mixture sit for five minutes, or until frothy.
  • The ingredients should be blended when you add the eggs, oil, flour, and salt to the bowl. Mix at medium speed for 6 minutes, or until the dough is elastic and smooth.
  • The dough should be moved to a greased basin, covered with a wet towel, and allowed to rise for an hour, or until it has doubled in size, in a warm location.
  • Each of the three equal pieces of dough should be formed into a rope that is about 18 inches long. Place the bread on a baking sheet that has been oiled after braiding the strands together. For 30 minutes, cover with a damp towel and allow to rise.
  • Set oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).
  • Once egg wash has been applied, bake the challah for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Before serving, remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!
