Set oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Clean, flour, and grease two 9-inch cake pans.
Combine water, cake mix, oil, and eggs in a big bowl. For two minutes, beat with an electric mixer.
Using a toothpick to test the middle of the cake, bake for 25 to 30 minutes after batter is poured into prepared pans.
Cakes should be taken out of the oven and given 10 minutes to cool before being removed from the pans.
Place one cake layer on a plate or cake stand to fill the cake. Add your preferred filling and spread. Spread frosting or additional filling on top of the second cake layer, if desired.
Notes
This recipe can be easily doubled to make a 4-layer cake. Simply bake the cake in four 9-inch cake pans and add an extra layer of filling between each cake layer.
